We had another appointment yesterday and it ended up being a LONG appointment. It all started with the routine checking of my blood pressure which ended up being a little on the high side. The nurse retook my BP and it was higher than the first time. The doctor then came in and suggested we retake it after the appointment.
The doctor did her usual exams and announced that I was measuring 50 weeks and there is still no progress with Baby. She wanted to do another ultrasound just to be sure everything looked fine. Baby's head and legs were measuring 40 weeks but it's belly was measuring at over 42 weeks! Amniotic fluid looked good and Baby was moving and breathing on target. Overall, Baby's adjusted ultrasound age was 40 weeks 6 days, which is only a week ahead. The doctor had to consult with the Perinatologist for an estimated fetal weight which she told me as the nurse was retaking my BP - 10 lbs!! Needless to say my BP was even higher so the doctor recommended we do a non-stress test.
During the non-stress test they hook you up to a monitor that checks Baby's heart rate and lets you record every time you feel movement. Little did we know that the monitor was also checking contractions, which of course there were none. It was only supposed to be a 30 minute check but the nurse forgot about us so it ended up being a 1 hour check. Long story short Baby is not stressed at all and very content. My BP on the other hand, had come down a little but was still high. Just when we thought we could escape, the doctor ordered that my blood to be drawn just to be on the safe side.
All in all it ended up being a 3 hour appointment! And the result of all of the tests were that nothing is wrong and Baby is fine. The real kicker is that although my BP was high for me it is not considered high during pregnancy. I have to go back on Monday afternoon to have my BP checked again and then on Thursday for another appointment. Here's hoping the next two appointments are considerably shorter and there's been some significant progress!
