Needless to say we were a bit disorientated with the whole situation but figured there wasn't much we could do about it at that point. We went home and cleaned the house, packed a few last minute things, called the pet sitter and we were off to the hospital.
Matt couldn't resist getting one last picture in of the monster belly. I believe this also appeases my sister who was curious to see what a 50 week belly looks like. Happy now!?!
We were admitted to the hospital right away and did a whole lot of waiting. Around 4pm our nurse told us that my OB/GYN was actually working that night and would be starting her shift at 5pm. We were really relieved to hear that a familiar face would be with us during this experience.
Dr. Dunn finally came in to see us around 7:15pm to talk about what the next steps were. By this point I had been hooked up to all kinds of monitors which basically showed: 1)Baby was doing great and as usual was not phased by anything 2)there were absolutely no signs of a contraction and 3)my blood pressure was really really high and not going down. Dr. Dunn checked me and said that I might be 1 cm dilated and a little effaced. She also officially diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia. At this point she was calling it a mild case but because Baby and I were both doing well she decided it was best to get the show on the road. We talked with her a long time about what our options were but in the end opted for an elective Cesarean section. It was a decision I was hoping not to have to make but given the fact that my body was seemingly having some troubles carrying Baby and there were no signs Baby wanted to come out, it seemed like the right decision. I told Dr. Dunn that we could go ahead with the c-section but only if she could make sure Baby was born at 11:11pm since it was 11/11/11. She said she would try but didn't know if she could justify waiting that long. The c-section was scheduled for 8:30pm - YIKES!
Well, 8:30pm came and went and no c-section. Every once and awhile the nurse would come in and say that they were going to take me back at any minute but it never happened. The hours continued to go by. Thank goodness for the Harry Potter marathon on ABC Family! Finally, at 11:15pm the nurse came in and said it was go time. They wouldn't let Matt come with me at first so I was on my own to get through the spinal and the other prep work. I was definitely anxious but so glad to have Dr. Dunn there to conduct the surgery.
Matt was finally allowed to come in. Things were going well but the time was ticking by. I kept looking at the clock wondering if we were going to even get a 11/11/11 baby or not and then at 11:52pm Baby was born! As they were pulling Baby out all I heard was "wow" "whoa" and "that's a big baby!" They pulled Baby out and we got to hear the precious first cries but no one had announced the sex yet. If you've been keeping up with this blog at all you will know that Baby was estimated to be "larger than average." Because of that we had really anticipated having a little boy. Dr. Dunn was also of this mind frame. In fact the nurses took a poll right before surgery and they all thought Baby was going to be a boy. You can imagine our surprise when Dr. Dunn asked Matt to announce the sex and he stood up and said "girl"? There were some chuckles and it was confirmed we had a baby girl!

20.5 inches long
11.0 pounds
We were able to leave the hospital Sunday afternoon thanks to great vital signs from Bonnie and a fairly smooth recovery for me. Here's Bonnie in her take home outfit, which you can tell from the picture is a little snug. Just like me she tolerated the hat for about 5 minutes and then decided that she hates hats.
We are so pleased to welcome Bonnie into our family. With all the 11's surrounding her birth we feel that she truly will be our good luck charm!
